DEEP DOWN

What lies beneath the surface? What is carried within us? What remains unseen?

DEEP DOWN explores the space between what is visible and what is felt, remembered and understood. At its core, this exhibition is about materiality but also about perception and the many, many things an object can hold.

A familiar form might reveal something unexpected. An object might hold a memory, a history, a contradiction, a feeling. What appears to be one thing can become another the longer we stay with it. Moving between interior/exterior, image/object, surface/depth, these 14 interdisciplinary artists make space for complexity, for the inherited and the imagined. 

Our Blackness is often read from the surface. DEEP DOWN asks us to look beyond what is immediately visible, and then to look again. 
A surface is never only a surface.
An object is never only an object.
